Urine C/S Test
A urine culture and sensitivity test will be ordered when your doctor suspects you have a urinary tract infection and to determine the exact organism responsible for the infection.
Gram staining is a test that shows characteristics of bacteria. Following the test, your doctor can tell if the bateria is Gram posistive or Gram negative. The importance of this is that the physician will able to prescribe antibiotics specifically for what kind of bacteria.
A Pap smear is a quick and simple screening test that looks for early warning signs that cervical cancer might develop in the future. If abnormal cells are noticed in the test they can be closely observed and/or treated to prevent cancer developing. Having a Pap smear every two years can prevent the most common form of cervical cancer in up to 90% of cases.
